€ 15,95
Born in 1860 in a village in Moravia, Alphonse Mucha was catapulted into fame when he made his first poster for Sarah Bernhardt in 1895. He became one of the most celebrated Art Nouveau artists in fin-de-siècle Paris and his appealing poster images with their sinuous lines, pastel colors, and teeming decorative motifs have become icons of the period.
Mucha put his inspiration to the service of a great number of objects and materials, creating publicity posters, jewelry, and designs for furniture and tableware and establishing a decorative repertoire with universal appeal.

Mucha believed that art could have a positive influence on every aspect of life and he wanted his work to transmit a message of peace and harmony in which the beautiful and the good are intimately bound. This idealistic philosophy, implicit in his decorative works, is explicit in his other creations – historical paintings, allegories, and symbolist scenes.
A large part of this book is dedicated to this as yet undiscovered aspect of Mucha’s work.
